PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Ahead of an important regional event, senior security and civilian leaders met in Islamabad on Tuesday to stake out Pakistaninfo-icon’s position on the issues facing Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting ahead of the Heart of Asia Conference. Arrangements for the conference, to be attended by President Ashraf Ghani, were reviewed, Sharif’s office said.

Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor Nasir Janjua, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and others were in attendance.

Sharif will be meeting President Ghani and Indian Foreign Minister Swaraj during and after the conference. He sought the participants’ opinion on hashing out Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan.

The meeting evaluated Pakistan's relations with its neighbours in light of recent talks and upcoming dialogue opportunities. Sharif and Raheel later had a one-on-one on security-related matters.

The 5th Heart of Asia ministerial conference is being attended by teams from 14 participating states, 17 supporting countries and 12 international organisations, the Foreign Office said.
