ZARANJ (Pajhwok): At least 20 Afghan asylum seekers have been killed and wounded in a traffic accident in Iran, an eyewitness said on Thursday.

Amanullah, one of the migrants, wrote on his Facebook page the incident took place late on Wednesday in the Khash township of Iran’s Sistan Baluchistan province.

He shared photos of the crash, showing seven vehicles carrying the asylum seekers. The vehicles were badly damaged as a result of the accident.

Habibullah, a resident of Nimroz province whose brother witnessed the incident, said five bodies and wounded people had been shifter to hospital.

He added the Afghans had been in Iran for work and wanted to go to Europe via Turkey in search of better lives.
