SHARANA (Pajhwok): More than 600 Talibaninfo-icon militants, 70 security personnel and 55 civilians have been killed during the past six months in southeastern Paktika province, the governor said on Monday.

Aminullah Shariq told a press conference here that a total of 643 Taliban militants had been killed during the period and scores others injured. He said most of the 70 security personnel were killed in landmine blasts, hit-and-run attacks and when off duty. He said the 55 civilians were killed in Taliban attacks that left another 122 civilians injured during the period.

The governor said a number of individuals were receiving salaries from the justice and judicial organs, but they had never visited Paktika. “I have stared efforts against these individuals,” Shariq said and warned government officials of punishment if they committed negligence in duty.

The governor also said the provincial revenue had increased by 21 percent this year compared last year’s returns.
