Dec 19, 2015 - 19:22

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Five policemen were injured on Saturday when a suicide bomber on foot targeted a police convoy in the bazaar of Greshk district of southern Helmand province, an official said.

The blast took place at around 2:30pm when the bomber blew himself up against a convoy of vehicles carrying the Greshk police chief and some military officials, Helmand police spokesman Shah Mohammad Ashna told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the district police chief, Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, was returning after visiting a site outside the district centre and came under attack as his convoy entered the bazaar. Khpalwak was unhurt in the blast that injured five policemen, Ashna said.

Khpalwak confirmed to Pajhwok he was the target and that he was unhurt in the blast. He said besides the five police, two civilians had also been injured in the attack. There were no other casualties, he added.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
