KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon thrashed Zimbabwe -- a Test-playing nation -- in the first one-day international (ODI), a low-scoring encounter, by 49 runs on Friday, a board official said.

Despite being bowled out for a meagre 131 in the 39th over, Afghanistan took a triumphant start to the five-match series at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

Electing to bat first, the national side was skittled out with more than 10 overs to spare, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Opener Noor Ali Zadran top-scored with 63, followed by Mohammad Nabi with 17 and Najib Zadran with 16. The Rest of the scorecard looked like a horror card.

Afghan bowlers literally bowled their hearts out on Christmas Day, Hotak said, adding Hamza Hotak shone with the ball and claimed four scalps, Mohammad Nabi three and Mirwais Ashraf two.

As a result of their remarkable bowling, the Afghans spun their way to a 49-run win over the opposition, bundled out for 80. Amir Hamza was adjudged the Man of the Match.
