Karzai hails Indian assistance; hopes for continued support

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Former president Hamid Karzai o Friday extolled Indian assistance to Afghanistaninfo-icon over the past 13 years, saying relations between the two nations were deeply rooted in history.

During his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kabul, the ex-president referred to the cordial friendship and shared historical, cultural and political bonds, Karzai’s office said in a statement.

Karzai thanked India for consistent assistances to the impoverished country, praising the inauguration of the new Afghan parliament by Modi. He made a pitch for continued support from India.

Some of the Karzai administration officials, including Mohammad Karim Khalili, elders and influential figures also participated in the meeting, the statement added.

The India-Afghanistan friendship had strong roots and no challenge could harm it, Khalili said, calling for continued cooperation from New Delhi.

Happy with his visit to Kabul, Modi said the two countries enjoyed historical and friendly relations. He acknowledged Karzai’s role in strengthening the bilateral relations.
