JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some cotton stores, two vehicles and other tools were destroyed in a blaze in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Thursday, an official said.

The fire erupted at Matin Market in the 4th municipality district at around 10:00am, said the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani. Seven shops and two vehicles were gutted.

Khogyani added the fire, caused by a gas cylinder, spread to cotton stores that were reduced ashes. The losses are still being worked out.

Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi expressed concerns over the incident, tasking the emergency response committee to reach the site immediately and provide necessary help to shopkeepers.

Obaidullah, one of the affected shopkeeper, said he had lost three stores of cotton accounting for 2.5 million rupees. He had no idea what caused the blaze
