Tonnes of ammonium nitrate seized in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Police seized more than 12,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from a truck en route to northern Afghanistaninfo-icon in capital Kabul, an official said on Thursday.

Kabul Asmayee Zone Police Commander Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi told a news conference here the fertiliser compound which could be used in explosives had been skillfully placed in the Hino truck that was intercepted in Karizmir area of Kabul City on Wednesday night.

He said the ammonium nitrate had been loaded into the truck in southern Ghazni province and was destined for northern region. He said the agricultureinfo-icon input was intended to be used in making explosives and destabilising the region.

Guided “in a foreign country,” the truck driver had been detained for investigation, the police official said, but did not name the country.

Calling ammonium nitrate a dangerous material, he said: “This material is used in most of explosive devices.”

“The enemy cannot fight face to face with Afghan forces and thus trying to create terror by bomb explosions,” he said.
