Ghani says committed to independence of judiciary

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday said his government was committed to independence of judiciary and interference in judicial affairs from government and non-government officials “is not acceptable.”

The president was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of a new member of the Supreme Court of Afghanistaninfo-icon, Justice Abdul Hasib, at the Presidential Palace, a statement from the palace said.

The Chief Justice and members of the Supreme Court High Council also attended the ceremony. “I am happy that another member of the Supreme Court has won the vote of confidence from the parliament,” President Ghani said.

The president praised the chief justice and members of the Supreme Court High Council for bringing positive changes to the judicial system.

Ashraf Ghani said meddling in the affairs of judiciary by government and non-government entities was not acceptable and said his government was committed to independence of judiciary and justice.
