NATO to equip Afghan forces with more than 100 Humvees

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The NATOinfo-icon-led Resolute Support mission will equip Afghan forces with more than 100 M1151 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) for the 2016 fighting season.

The first batch of over 100 HMMWVs has already reached the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistaninfo-icon’s Security Assistance Office, the mission tweeted on Thursday.

An improved version of the standard Humvee,the M1151 Enhanced Armament Carrier has a heavier chassis and better engine to handle add-on armour, according to the mission.

Afghan armed forces will also receive 55 Mobile Strike Force vehicles under a contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD). The vehicles will be built by Textron Marine & Land Systems.

Based in New Orleans, the company was awarded a $56,176,864 firm-fixed-price foreign military sales (Afghanistan) contract for 55 Mobile Strike Force vehicles with related hardware and field service representative services for system de-processing.
