KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A moderate earthquake jolted parts of Afghanistaninfo-icon on Friday afternoon, but information about casualties was not immediately available.

The quake that took place at around 2:10pm was felt in the capital Kabul and some other provinces of the country.

In neighbouring Pakistaninfo-icon, strong jolts were felt in parts of Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces.

The United States Geological Survey reported the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.0 and traced its origin to the Jurm district of Badakhshan province.

Since the start of the current year, it was the third quake that struck Pakistan. Residents of Peshawar, Malakand, Mansehra, Haripur and Abbottabad left their homes and workplaces and ran onto streets.

The areas are still reeling from a 7.5 magnitude quake in Oct 2015, killing more than 300 people in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On January 2, a 5.3 temblor shook Kabul and parts of Afghanistan, but caused no casualties or damage.
