AAF to get 4th gunship helicopter from India in 3 weeks

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): India will deliver a fourth Mi-25 gunship helicopter to the Afghan Air Force (AAF) within three weeks, the acting defence minister informed lawmakers on Saturday.

In December, Afghanistaninfo-icon received three of the four Mi-25 helicopters from India. The delivery came days ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kabul.

Masoom Stanikzai, briefing Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members, said that the Ministry of Defence was drawing up a long-term plan for equipping the nascent air force and training its pilots and engineers.

With the arrival of fixed-wing light attack aircraft from the United States, the minister hoped AAF capabilities would grow considerably.

On Thursday evening, President Ashraf urged a delegation of US senators to help equip AAF.He referred to Afghanistan’s needfor aircraft and helicopters.
