4 policemen shot dead by colleagues in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least four policemen, including a checkpoint commander, have been killed by their colleagues in the Khakrez district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Saturday.

The incident took place in the Salami Mountain area of the district on Friday night, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News on the condition of anonymity.

The seven policemen were sent to the post where three of them shot four of their colleagues including commander Shahbaz.He said the attackers managed to flee along with weapons and ammunition.

The source believed the attackers had links with the militants, who had directed them to kill the policemen.

Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, said he had no information about the incident. However, he added, security organs were looking into reports about the insider assault.

The Talibaninfo-icon are yet to comment on incident, not the first of its kind in Kandahar province, where several policemen had suffered casualties in similar attacks.
