Dream gone awry: On way to Iran, 85 Afghans held in Chaman

Jan 17, 2016 - 10:48

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Eighty-five Afghan citizens, trying to enter Iran illegally, have been detained by Pakistani paramilitary troops in southwestern Balochistan province.

Based on an intelligence tip regarding the illegal border crossing, the Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers conducted an operation in the Rahtak area of Chaman district on Saturday.

An FC spokesman said the 85 illegal Afghans had been detained along with a travel agent. They were on their way to Europe through Iran, he alleged.

The detainees were handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for interrogation, the FC spokesman said.

A day earlier, Pakistaninfo-icon deported 160 Afghans to their country via the Torkham border. They had been arrested in different cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In Torkham, they were handed over to Afghan border guards after completion of necessary documentation.
