UNAMA, US embassy denounce Jalalabad attack

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistaninfo-icon (UNAMA) and the US embassy have condemned Sunday’s suicide attack in Jalalabad that killed 13 civilians and injured 14 others.

Civilians could never be deliberately targeted in any location, the UN mission said, adding such attacks were explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law.

In a statement, the mission reminded all parties to the armed conflict in Afghanistan that they were bound to uphold their legal obligations to to avoid harm to civilians.

While extending condolences to the families of those killed and a speedy recovery for the injured. UNAMA reaffirmed its continued support to the people of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the US embassy also denounced the deadly suicide attack on the home of Nangarhar Provincial Council member Obaidullah Shinwari.

"‎Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. We will continue to be a strong partner of a democratic Afghanistan,” a statement from the embassy said.
