Vohra assumes charge as new Indian ambassador in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): India’s new Ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon Manpreet Vohra on Wednesday formally took charge of office in Kabul.

Replacing Amar Sinha, Vohra wrote in his twitter account: “I have arrived in Kabul and have started my first day’s work here.”

Vohra has served as secretary-general of Indian Ministry of Externalinfo-icon Affairs. He has also been India’sdeputy high commissioner to Pakistaninfo-icon.

Since the Talibaninfo-icon regime’s ouster in 2001, Vohra is the sixth Indian ambassadors to serve in the Afghan capital.

“My first morning in Kabul as new Indian ambassador! Salaam and namaste to Afghanistan and everyone. It’s an honour and a privilege,” he tweeted.

His ambassadorialassignment in Kabul by India’s Minister of External Affairs was announced in November.
