Taliban shoot, injured 7 civilians in Parwan

Taliban shoot, injured 7 civilians in Parwan

Jan 26, 2016 - 18:11

CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Local residents on Tuesday said Talibaninfo-icon militants shot and injured seven civilians after pulling them off passenger vehicles in Shinwari district of central Parwan province.

They claimed the Taliban shot injured the civilians in Sar Dara Ashtar Shehr area because local residents defied their orders to pick up guns against the government.

The injured people have been brought to the civil hospital in Charikar, the provincial capital, where hundreds of residents of the Shinwari district have arrived. The residents said the government had failed to provide them security.

One of them, Mira Jan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban had asked local residents of the Shinwari district to wage an uprising against the government.

But the residents did not comply with the orders and the Taliban in reaction on Tuesday morning seized a number of people, including him, from vehicles en route to a wedding ceremony, he said, adding that seven of them were shot and injured by the insurgents.

Mira Jan said the government had failed to provide security to local residents. “If the situation persists, we have no option but to leave our homes and migrate to other areas.”

Another resident, Ahmad Zia, confirmed Mira Jan’s account and said the Taliban shot injured seven persons, but did not kill any. He said the injured persons had been shot in the legs and hands.

The civil hospital director, Dr. Abdul Qasim, said the seven persons had been shot in the legs and hands and they were under treatment.

But he said four of the injured persons needed intensive care and the remaining three were comparatively in good condition.

Shinwari district chief Qazi Aka Gul also said the Taliban were involved in the shooting and the area where the incident took place was remote and under Taliban control.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
