8 policemen defect to Taliban in Bala Murghab district

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Eight policemen joined Talibaninfo-icon ranks and turned in their weapons to the militants in northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Syed Sharif, police chief for the Bala Murghab district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the security personnel surrendered to the Taliban at 10:00pm on Wednesday.

He said the eight policemen had been assigned with manning a check-post in Darwesh Mohammadia locality. They left the post and joined the Taliban, he added.

Bala Murghab district is situated 180 kilometres north of Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital. It has seen escalating militant activities in recent years.
