KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Former advisor to the president, Shahzada Massoud, said on Saturday the unity government, formed less than two years back, had no programme for convening a Loya Jirgainfo-icon.

Under the coalition agreement between President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah, a Loya Jirga is to be called on amendingthe constitution.

The proposed amendments include making the CEO the prime minister. In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Massoud said there were only six months left in expiration of the deadline but the government was yet to take stepsfor conducting the grand assembly.

If the unity government did not take immediate steps toward organising the Loya Jirga, the country would face a serious political crisis in addition to economic and military problems, he warned.

“On the completion of the two years, conducting the Loya Jirga or extending the term of the government will be an illegitimate and unconstitutional act,” he said.

Regarding peace talks, he said as long as the US and Pakistaninfo-icon were not sincere, there process would not come to fruition, as had been the case over the past 12 years.

Quadrilateral meetings on peace are being arranged on the one hand and US generals predict a bloodier wars in Afghanistaninfo-icon on the other, according to the ex-advisor, who alleged: “They (Americans) are spreading this propaganda to promote their own interests.”

He asked the government to conduct the traditional assembly for the resolving the current problems. The rulers should task a commission with asking political leaders and influential individuals to help resolve the current problems.
