KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Two Talibaninfo-icon commanders were among three fighters killed during recent operations in central Maidan Wardak province, the Ministry of Interior said on Sunday.

The two commanders and a rebel were killed during the overnight and Sunday morning firefights in the Nirkh district, a statement from the ministry said.

Commander Baryalai and his guard were killed during a policeoperation on Saturday night in the Deh Muslim area of Nirkh, the governor’s spokesman, Toryalai Himmat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The local Taliban commander was involved in blowing up telephone towers and performing other disruptive activities in the district, he alleged.

Elsewhere, Commander Abdul Wahid was killed in a separate operation in the Shah Kabli area of the same district on Sunday morning; he said, adding police and civilians escaped unhurt.

However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they had killed two security personnel as a result of a bomb attack on the vehicle in the district.
