American drone crashes in Kandahar; hostile fire ruled out

Feb 21, 2016 - 11:11

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): An American drone has crashed in southern Afghanistaninfo-icon but there have been no casualties, the US Air Force said on Friday.

Seen as an effective tool in the war on terror, the MQ-9 Reaper went down at the Kandahar Airfield late Saturday, Capt. Bryan L. Bouchard said.

In a statement, Bouchard said the cause of the unmanned aircraft’s crash was being investigated. "But hostile fire was not a factor," he added.

The USmilitary has lately intensified its air campaign against militant groups, relying heavily on armed drones. The Islamic State is one of the main targets.
