Pajhwok reporter beaten up by Faryab security personnel

Pajhwok reporter beaten up by Faryab security personnel

Feb 28, 2016 - 12:31

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Security officials beat a Pajhwok Afghan News (PANinfo-icon) reporter in northwestern Faryab province, with the Journalist Social Network (JSN) strongly condemning the incident.

Qutbuddin Kohi, the reporter, said he wanted to enter into the governor’s house to attend a press conference but security guards at the gate did not allow him. “I told them I am a journalist, but they refused to let me in.”

The reporter accused the security personnel of misbehaving with him and quoted one of them as saying: “You cannot enter (the compound) even if you have strong props.”

He said they used insulting language and beaten him with Kalashnikov butts in the presence of high-ranking security officials.

Mohammad Hassan Sardash, head of the JSN, denounced the mistreatment of the reporter and said journalists in Faryab were abused and beaten up by security forces and rebels.

He said the security officials had promised to arrest the guards involved in thrashing Kohi.
