JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday urged Pakistan to ensure early completion of the second Torkham-Jalalabad highway lane and the kidney hospital project in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.
Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi made the call during a meeting with Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan Ibrar Hussain in Jalalabad. They discussed various issues of mutual interest, Kunduzi’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Besides other issues, the governor discussed with the Pakistani envoy the second Jalalabad-Torkham road lane and urged Pakistan to accelerate construction work on the road.
Funded by Pakistan, the road, work on which was started a few years ago, is being constructed by a Pakistani construction company.
The Nangarhar governor also urged the Pakistani envoy to ensure that all needed equipment were provided to the Pakistan-funded kidney hospital in Jalalabad at the earliest.
The governor said they had introduced more than 100 doctors and paramedical staff to the Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad for training in Pakistan before their deployment at the kidney hospital.
He also said Pakistan should issue six months visas to Afghans visiting the neighbouring country and should provide more facilities in this regard in Nangarhar.
The governor also shared with the Pakistani envoy shifting the Pakistani consulate to a more secure and suitable place.
Attaullah Khogyani said in the later part of the meeting, Nangarhar provincial council’s deputy head Dr. Lal Mohammad Durrani, and members including Isarullah Murad and Ajmal Omar insisted that local students should be given scholarship forms in Nangarhar in a transparent manner.
In response, Ibrar Hussain assured the Nangarhar governor of completing the Torkham-Jalalabad road until the end of this year.
He said most scholarships for Afghan students to study in Pakistan would be given to Nangarhar students and a list in this regard would be soon dispatched to the governor.
On shifting the Pakistani diplomatic mission, the ambassador said they would welcome every decision taken for better security of the Pakistan consulate in Nangarhar.
He promised efforts to ensure that Afghans were issued long-term visas instead of six months and more than usual visas to Afghans per day.
Ibrar Hussain said the Pakistani government had readied all equipment for the kidney hospital in Nangarhar, but called for not taxing the equipment by Nangarhar customs.
He said he had talked to the Pakistani Ministry of Health about training to the Afghan doctors and paramedical staff for the kidney hospital and they would be soon sent to Pakistan.
