Lawyers being hired for Afghan prisoners in Pakistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The administration of President Ashraf Ghani has decided to hire defence lawyers for Afghan detainees in Pakistani jails.

Afghan Consul General Dr. Abdullah Wahid Pohan said this during a meeting with a senior official of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

A statement from the Afghan Consulate in Peshawar said on Thursday the diplomat discussed the Pakistani officialthe problems being faced by the Afghan inmates.

The Afghan prisoners who had completed their jail terms would be released soon after being provided with legal assistance. The mission will hire lawyers for needy prisoners.

Pakistani officials would provide all information about the detained Afghans to the Afghan consulate, the statement added

Pohan thanked the Pakistani official for cooperation on the issue of prisoners. The Pakistani side also praised efforts of the consul general for the prisoners’ release.
