Mar 14, 2016 - 18:37

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Security forces have seized an ammunition-laden vehicle from militants in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.

Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the vehicle full of warheads, mortar shells and 82mm artillery shells was seized in Khanqa district.

The insurgents wanted to transfer the arms to the district centre and use them for destruction activities, he alleged.

A brief clash erupted between security forces and the Talibaninfo-icon, he said, adding the militants suffered casualties. However, the official did not provide specific figures.

Mohammad Raza Ghafoori, the governor’s spokesman, said the clash occurred in Shah Mirza area of the district on Monday morning. The Taliban failed to reach their target, he added.

Hameeduallah, a passenger, said the clash took place on the Shiberghan-Mazar-i-Sharif highway and lasted an hour.
