KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): While voicing concern over the poor performance of the Kabul Municipality, President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said corruption and injustice had become an entrenched culture in the nation's capital.

During a meeting with members of parliament and the Kabul provincial council, Ghani called the current municipal system unacceptable and said it needed fundamental changes.

A statement from Presidential Palace said the government had decided to turn unplanned areas into planned ones to prevent land-grab incidents in future.

The president criticised the poor performance of the municipality and other departments that lacked the capacity to utilise their budgets, according to the press release.

About people’s role in city management, he said Kabul was a home to all its residents, whose problems could not be resolved without their cooperation.

Pointing to the reconstructioninfo-icon of the Darul Aman Palace, he said the government had a comprehensive plan for rebuilding the old city. He asked public representatives to provide suggestions for resolving municipality problems.

“We have begun a series of meetings with representatives of Kabul residents; we will find proper solutions to the current issues after hearing suggestions of MPs.” he assured participants of the meeting.

About Kabul's cleanness Ghani said: “We are taking action for permanent garbage management and have talked to several private companies for resolving the issue.”
