Japan offers $1.5m grant for improvement of Salang Pass

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Japan has agreed to provide a $1.5 million grant for a project which will contribute to the improvement of country’s main north- south road corridor transport route.

Documents for the Preparatory Facility for Salang Tunnel Projectwere exchanged between Yasunari Morino, charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Japan, and Thomas Panella, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) country director.

Japan and ADB decided to continue the feasibility study and geotechnical analysis, as well as detailed engineering study and procurement assistance.

The Japanese contribution will be allocated to feasibility study, such as geotechnical survey and preparation of technical designs, safeguard studies and an economic analysis.

ADB will do the project preparation work in close cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works in Kabul, according to a statement from the Embassy of Japan.
