PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak says peace in the region is linked to the security situation in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

“Unless Kabulinfo-icon is stable, peace will not be ensured in the province,” he said of the deteriorating security environmentinfo-icon in northwestern Pakistaninfo-icon.

The chief minister said he had asked the Afghan government to take action against phone calls from extortionists who threatened traders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

If appropriate action not taken, his government would not be responsible for the wellbeing of Afghan refugees in province, Khattak warned.

Speaking at a condolence meeting for a renowned trader, Khattak alleged the extortionists in Afghanistan called traders in the province and sought large sums of money.

He added: “If they (Afghans) cannot assist us in this matter, we have no obligation to provide support and protection to refugees in KP.”
