Taliban kidnap 5 policemen from Nuristan checkpoint

PARON (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon attacked a police check-post in the Noorgram district of eastern Nuristan province, kidnapping five policemen, a senior official said on Thursday.

Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayyum told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Wednesday in Latwa locality. He confirmed the Taliban had taken five policemen hostage.

In a statement on their website, the Taliban claimed killing three policemen and capturing five others in Noorgram district.

According to the governor, efforts are underway to set free the captured security personnel. He said Du Aab district had been under siege from the militants for the past three days.

He said security forces conducted air raids in the district, killing and wounding 15 fighters. Security forces are trying to lift the siege. The viewpoint of locals could not be obtained due to non-availability of telecommunication service in the area.
