AISA being merged into Commerce Ministry

Apr 05, 2016 - 23:39

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The government has decided to merge the Afghanistaninfo-icon Investment Support Agency (AISA) into the Commerce and Industry Ministry, an official said on Tuesday.

The merger was agreed upon during a meeting of the High Economic Council (HEC) presided over by President Ashraf Ghani, the government official said.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah and AISA chief Qurban Haqju and senior government officials were present at the meeting.

The source said two proposals were presented before the HEC meeting, including one floated by AISA officials who called for recognising the body as a budgetary unit.

The second proposal was presented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, calling for AISA to be merged into it.

The HEC meeting later decided that AISA should merge into the Commerce Ministry and the ministry was tasked with formulating a plan in this regard.

AISA has the responsibility to facilitate registration, licensing and promotion of all investments in Afghanistan.
