ZARANJ (Pajhwok):  A Counter-Narcotics Ministry-funded gymnasium was inaugurated in southwestern Nimroz province on Saturday, an official said.

Governor Mohammad Sami told Pajhwok Afghan News the facility was a gift from the ministry to the province in recognition of its successful anti-poppy campaign.

Under a programme supported by the international community, an amount of $1m is provided for development projects to a province that eradicates the illicit crop completely.

The gymnasium, part of the ministry’s counter-narcotics campaign, was constructed as a cost of 25 million afghanis on 1,250 square meters.

Sportinfo-icon Director Mohammad Nasir Hussaini said the sport complex had capacity for 400 spectators and offered multiple facilities including football and basketball courts.

The director added there were four private gymnasia in Nimroz, visited by 7,300 athletes.

Mohammad Rahim and other players said earlier they used to play at improper grounds. They expressed happiness over the construction of the sport complex.
