Taliban leader shot dead by intelligence agents in Baghlan raid

Apr 13, 2016 - 11:19

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon’s deputy chief for the Barfak district of northern Baghlan province was killed in a raid early Wednesday morning, an official said.

Governor Abdul Sattar Barez told Pajhwok Afghan News National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) operatives gunned down Qari Abdul Wase in the Gazan village of Khinjan district.

Two injured bodyguards of Wase were held in the raid that took place at around 4:00am, he said. A walkie-talkie and two machine-guns were also seized during the operation.

Barez said Wase was named deputy district chief after the Taliban’s shadow district head was killed a month ago. He was involved in terrorist activities on Pul-i-Khumri-Kabulinfo-icon highway.

The Taliban have not reacted yet to the governor’s claim regarding the killing of their key member, but the group claimed capturing some check-posts in Baghlan.
