KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon, India and Iran have concluded talks on a draft transport and transit agreement that will serve as a legal framework to operate trade corridors at the Chabahar port.

Afghan Ambassador to India Shaida Mohammad Abdali said in an interview on Tuesday the three technical negotiating teams finalised the text on April 11. “The opening of this corridor will help us fully reach our potential, give us a new trade route.”

Abdali told The Wire negotiators from the three countries worked hard on Monday to conclude the text in New Delhi. The text was finalized at the second meeting of experts. Their first meeting had been in Iran in September 2015.

Dates for signing the agreement, which may take place in Iran, are being firmed up, according to the Afghan diplomat, who suggested the pact should be inked at the highest level possible. “We hope to sign it within the next two months.”
