MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Police chief of Balcharagh district in northwestern Faryab province and his three bodyguards have been killed during a clash with militants, an official said on Saturday.

A local security official, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Col. Najibullah and his five bodyguards were killed during a clash with militants in Jar Kala area of Garziwan district late on Friday.

Mohammad Samay Khairkhwa, member of the provincial council, confirmed the incident and said the police chief and his men took part in a clearing operation in Garziwan district when came under attack.

Talibaninfo-icon militants did not comment on the incident so far.
