Taliban whip Badghis man after elopement

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon have given 70 lashes to a man after he ran away with a woman in Ab Kamari district of northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Saturday.

Col. Ziauddin, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the man, a resident of Qarchaq village, had eloped with a woman from the same village to Daizangi village two days ago.

He said the girl was unmarried and the man was engaged and the Taliban arrested them and whipped the man a day earlier at about 5pm in front of a crowd.

He said the Taliban were now keeping a watch on the couple in Daizangi area under their control.

Mohammad Shah, a resident of the village, told Pajhwok Afghan New he witnessed the whipping.

He said the couple remained in Taliban’s surveillance in order to hand them over to their relatives.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
