Hundreds of disabled people need wheelchairs

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people with disabilities could not afford to buy wheelchairs due to their poor economic condition in the eastern zone, a charity organization said on Saturday.

Baz Charity Foundation, after distributing 25 wheelchairs to disabled people, urged aid organizations to help it purchase wheelchairs for those in need.

Baz Mohammad Abid, head of the Baz Charity Foundation, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 25 wheelchairs given to disabled persons both men and womeninfo-icon had been purchased with donations from Afghans inside and outside of the country.

He said his foundation had so far distributed 388 wheelchairs to people with disabilities free of cost.

Hamdullah Arbab, assistant with the foundation, said Baz Charity Organization faced budget shortage to purchase more wheelchairs as the list of people demanding wheelchairs was expanding each day. Therefore we request all our friends to donate to the foundation for buying wheelchairs.”

One of the beneficiaries, Inayatullah, said: “I had no wheelchair for a long time because my poor economic condition, but I am happy today for receiving one today in aid.”

He said the government and aid organizations should pay attention to people with disabilities.

Another person Sulaiman said: “My two daughters are disabled, I brought them here and the Baz Charity Organization gave them wheelchairs.” He was happy for the aid and said he personally could not purchase the wheelchairs.
