Ali Haider freed by US, Afghan commandos in Giyan

KABULinfo-icon(Pajhwok): Ali Haider Gilani, son of Pakistaninfo-icon’s former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, was rescued as a result of a joint operation in the Giyan district of Paktika province by US and Afghan forces, the US military said.

US Special Operations Forces and Afghan commandos conducted the raid called Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The mission was planned and launched after evidence of terrorist activity was confirmed in the area.

A statement from the US military said four enemy combatants were killed as a result of the operation. No other injuries or damage were reported.Through Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, the US continues counterterrorism mission.

“The US partnership with the government of Afghanistaninfo-icon is highly effective and critical to the fight against terrorism and ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the statement added.
