PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) hopes for the early execution of a mega power project that was launched this week.

Seen as a key step toward regional connectivity, the Central Asia-South Asia (CASA-1000) project will export surplus electricity from two former Soviet republics to Pakistaninfo-icon via Afghanistaninfo-icon.

RCCI President Mian Humayun Pervez welcomed the project’s inauguration, hailing it as a gigantic leap towards bridging the increasing gap between energy demand and supply.

The mega project would help boost the trade ties between the regional countries, he hoped. “The economy is taking a sharp leap and we need more energy to meet our industry demands.”

Humayun Pervez said in a statement CASA-1000 would not only be beneficial for Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, but would also pave the way for more linkages between Central Asia and South Asia.
