KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon on Tuesday commended mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Baz Mohammad Mubarez and five youth who excelled in university test exams last year.

Mubarez recently defeated his Russian rival in Moscow, watched by thousands of spectators, including the deputy president of Russia and Afghan diplomats in that country.

On Tuesday, the Senate praised Mubarez and five high school graduates including Faramarz Hamidi, Fawad Ahmad Farzam, Jamshed Zabuli, Mir Hamza Mohammadi and Mohammad Asim.

Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, the Meshrano Jirga chairman, said Afghans wanted Mubarez to bring home even more laurels and achievements and keep Afghanistaninfo-icon’s flag flying high.

The athlete received an appreciation letter and other prizes from the administrative board of the upper house. Mubarez said: “I have always tried to keep my national identity alive.”

Calling sportsmen peace ambassadors, he hoped all Afghan players would do all they could for peace and stability in their homeland.
