Zakhilwal, Saudi envoy discuss Afghan peace process

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon Ambassador in Pakistaninfo-icon Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal on Thursday discussed the Afghan peace process with his Saudi counterpart in Islamabad.

A statement from the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad said Zakhilwal was assured of Saudi cooperation with regard to the Afghan reconciliation process by Saudi Ambassador in Islamabad, Abdullah Al-Zahrani.

However, the statement did not say how Saudi Arabia would help advance the Afghan reconciliation effort.

Zakhilwal also discussed with the Saudi envoy problems of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan and facilitating them to perform Hajjinfo-icon.

The Saudi ambassador also assured Zakhilwal of his country’s support and cooperation in strengthening relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the statement said.

The two ambassadors met a day after Afghanistan signed a draft peace agreement with the Gulbuddin Hekmatyar-led Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon and the four-nation group engaged in efforts to revive the stalled peace talks held its fifth meeting in Islamabad.
