Wolesi Jirga seeks return of draft law on basic govt structure

Wolesi Jirga seeks return of draft law on basic govt structure

May 30, 2016 - 18:10

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon on Monday asked the government to resend the draft law on ‘government basic structure’ to the lower house for approval.

The draft law on the basic structure of government once landed in parliament in August 2006 after being approved by the Council of Ministers, but the Wolesi Jirga sent the draft back to the government for a review after 13 months.

A lawmaker from central Bamyan province, Fakoor Behishti, told Monday’s general session the government should resend the draft law on basic government structure as soon as possible.

Without elaborating, he said the government had established many entities including the High Peace Councilinfo-icon without consulting the parliament.

“We have repeatedly asked the government and have sent official letters to the government to dispatch the law on government basic structure, but the government is yet to do so,” Wolesi Jirga speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said.

He said the law on basic government structure was important and highly required.
