11soldiers dead, 12 captured in Taliban attack on ANA base

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Eleven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and a dozen others captured by the Talibaninfo-icon in the Deh Rawood district of central Uruzgan province, officials said on Tuesday.

The casualties happed on Monday night when the militants launched a coordinated attack on an ANA base in Sokhti area, a former public representative told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Amanullah Hotaki, ex-provincial council head and resident of the district, said 11 soldiers were killed and 12 others taken hostage by the insurgents. He added the assailants also seized weapons and other equipment.

Aminullah Khaleqi, the town’s administrative head, confirmed the incident but provided no details about casualties.

Gen. Mohammad Rassoul, commander o the ANA brigade in the province, also declined commenting on the incident.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
