Peshawar police detain 340 Afghan refugees in 3 days

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Police have detained some 340 Afghan refugees during the past three days in Pakistaninfo-icon’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

SSP Peshawar Abbas Majid Marwat was quoted as saying by Geo TV that they had arrested 340 Afghan refugees during the past three days.

Marwat said the refugees detained lacked legal stay documents and they were detained during a clearance operation in various areas of Peshawar city.

He vowed to continue the operation against illegal foreigners living in Peshawar.

The arrests follow deadly clashes between Afghan and Pakistani security forces at Torkham border over construction of a gate.

An Afghan refugee in Peshawar, Azizullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News Pakistani police had hardened their stance on Afghan refugees after the Torkham tension.
