Former HIA commander gunned down in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a commander of the Gulbadin Hekmatyar-led Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon (HIA) Afghanistaninfo-icon in the Chaparhar district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News unknown gunmen seized Col. Rahmat Shah from his house and killed him in Gandi Bagh locality late on Friday.

Another HIA commander, Abdullah Kamawal, confirmed the killing of Rahmat Shah and said he was a famous figure in the area.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
