Baghlan school set alight by unidentified gunmen

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A school has been torched by unidentified gunmen in the Nahrain district of northern Baghlan province, officials said on Sunday.

Mohammad Afzal, principal of Gulmiran High School, told Pajhwok Afghan News a number of armed men injured the guard before setting the building on fire at around 11:30pm.

He said several classrooms and offices were torched in the incident.“The fire was extinguished by residents, but it completely gutted the office and partially damaged classrooms.”

About 2,000 students are enrolled in the Gulmiran High School, located in the district centre.More than 500 schools are currently functional in Baghlan. A year back, a school was torched in a similar incident in Andarab district.
