QALAT (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen would-be suicide bombers were among at least 24 militants killed in an explosion in southern Zabul province on Monday, officials said.

Zabul deputy police chief Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place in Khak-i-Afghan district this morning.

The 11 would-be bombers were being trained when their explosives-filled vests went off, killing a total of 24 militants in Tangi village of the district, he said.

A large quantity of weapons and ammunition of the militants were also destroyed in the incident, he said.

Talibaninfo-icon’s shadow district chief for Khak-i-Afghan district and a number of foreign militants were also among the dead, he said.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident.
