UK to dispatch 50 more troops to Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United Kingdom (UK) has decided to send up to 50 additional military personnel to Afghanistaninfo-icon to train and advise Afghan National Security Forces (ANSFinfo-icon), BBC reported on Saturday.

The newly deployed military personnel would join 450 British troops already in Afghanistan and would aid counter-terrorism efforts and provide leadership training.

According to Officials the additional troops would not be taking part in combat operations against the Talibaninfo-icon.

UK troops had been due to leave Afghanistan this year but will now have their mission extended into 2017.

Prime Minister David Cameron, who is attending a NATOinfo-icon summit in Warsaw, will announce the deployment later.

The deployment of additional UK soldiers had been decided at a time when the US President Barack Obama this week announced a slowdown in the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
