KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Former head of Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) Ahmad Yousaf Nuristani has been appointed as Afghanistaninfo-icon’s ambassador to Spain in compliance with a presidential order.

Nuristani tendered his resignation as IEC chairman a few months back, a decision accepted by President Ashraf Ghani. The president had then said that Nuristani better understood the ongoing crisis in the election system and his resignation would be helpful in the current circumstances.

The appointment of new commissioners to the election commissions was part of reforms process, but Nuristani and his colleagues stressed that in line with the laws of the country nobody could remove them until their six-year tenures were complete.

On schedule, the commissioners were to stand down in 2019.
