4-nation group seeking peace talks unlikely to meet soon

KABULinfo-icon(Pajhwok): The national unity government has ruled out revival of a quadrilateral process seeking a negotiated end to the conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) involving Afghanistan, Pakistaninfo-icon, China and the United States has held five meetings in Kabul and Islamabad.

However, the group has failed to make any progress in bringing the Talibaninfo-icon to the negotiating table, with President Ashraf Ghani asking Islamabad to crack down on opponents of peace talks.

Ghani’s spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri was quoted as saying by the Associated Press "there is no set time" for another meeting of QCG.Pakistan-based terrorist groups continued to stage attacks in Afghanistan, he alleged.
