Sherpao calls for removing Kabul-Islamabad trust deficit

Sherpao calls for removing Kabul-Islamabad trust deficit

Jul 16, 2016 - 11:35

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A senior political leader has underlined the need for removing the lingering trust deficit between Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistaninfo-icon for the sake of durable peace in the region.

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, addressing a public meeting in Shabqadar tehsil on Friday, urged the normalisation relations between the neighbours.

“Islamabad and Kabulinfo-icon should evolve a mechanism to protect their common interests,” Sherpao said, adding Pakhtuns had been the worst hit by militancy and terrorism over the last three decades.

Not only Pakhtuns, but the entire region had been affected by instability in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the former chief minister noted, saying Pakhtun political leadership should be taken into confidence on the process of overcoming the trust deficit between the two countries.

He called for the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan to adopt concrete steps to evolve a strategy for bringing lasting peace to the region. Acrimony between the neighbours did not serve the interest of either nation, he concluded.
